A brilliant and striking outfit makes itself known and communicates well before the person wearing it begins to speak. Regardless of what your style is, adding bold color with well-placed and detailed accessories turns heads. Taking inspiration from the Pantone color palette can be an innovative style guide to create outfits that not only boost your confidence, but inspire others around you.

Since 1999, Pantone has released a color that defines the year ahead for consumers and fashion lovers alike. Predictions for 2026, included turquoise and varied shades of green, but Pantone had another thing coming. Enter Cloud Dancer; the first time Pantone has ever debuted a shade of white. This had many creatives in an uproar. Not only because white is technically considered a tint rather than a color itself, but also for the general lack of creativity. How can white define a year when it’s the most bland and perhaps simplistic of all?

Pantone describes Cloud Dancer as a “lofty white whose aerated presence acts as a whisper of calm and peace in a noisy world.” Whatever your opinion about the new color, we do have to admit that calm and peace are aspirational in a world that constantly shows a broken reality. Perhaps the creativity comes from how we use Cloud Dancer.

A whisper in your wardrobe

If you want to incorporate Cloud Dancer into your wardrobe, try white-inspired nails or a white scarf and matching earmuffs for winter. Looking at warmer weather, a white sundress or a classic T-shirt are welcome classics. White jeans are also a simple way to look put together without a lot of effort. Despite the controversy, white is a versatile color that can be incorporated into your wardrobe with ease.

How to stay ahead of the trend

The key to dressing with the Pantone colors is to be an early adapter or trend spotter. Major fashion houses that have active designers like Versace, Dior, Miu Miu, Hérmes and Balmain,  (to name a few) are the first places you should look. You can watch the shows on YouTube as most fashion houses or other influencers post them. Similar to how Cloud Dancer will set the tone for 2026 in consumerism, a color palette theme exists on runways too.

The 2026 New York fashion week included Pantone’s Acacia (an intense, primary yellow), Lava Falls (a Chinese Lantern red), Alexandrite (an emerald green), Muskmelon (a cutesy, vibrant peach-orange), Tea Rose (a pastel coral), Burnt Sienna (a welcoming brown-orange), and Amaranth (a rich mulberry).

For the average woman, being runway ready before you run out the door is a major stretch. Thankfully, you don’t have to follow high fashion to be fashionable. Instead, pick one to two colors that inspire you. Pick one from the colors above that makes you glow. Then, pick another that makes you smile, but is a bit out of your comfort zone. Check your closet to see if you own a piece that’s similar in color to the ones you like.

In the mood for shopping? Be on the lookout for those colors in headbands, shirts, pants, or whatever suits your fancy.

Shade by shade, season by season

Even though white is pretty universal, Cloud Dancer will eventually be replaced. Pantone’s color of the year is sure to change, but timeless color combinations don’t ever go out of style. Here are some ideas for each season inspired by Pantone.

Fall

Leaves crunch underfoot and apple cider goes down easy during these months. We are also reminded that neutrals never go out of style.

Pantone’s Tiramisu is a chocolate brown that pairs well with an unexpected dusty pink like Rosewood or Dry Rose.

Inspired by Pinterest and the blue and pink Adidas gazelles, the dark scarlet of Cherries Jubilee paired with the light, sky blue Serenity is an innovative, fall combo.

Sienna is a burnt orange that is the perfect color for a sweater or pants during pumpkin spice season.

Winter

Holiday cheer wouldn’t be complete without the warm glow of Christmas lights, hot cocoa, and mistletoe. Just like these cold weather classics, jewel tones always make an appearance this time of year.

Want understated elegance? Lilac Ash is a beautiful champagne shimmer for an upscale New Years or Christmas get-together.

Combine the red Merlot and bright, soft Cloud Dancer for a lush and classy outfit.

Black Beauty could show up in a black leather jacket and Sodalite in a vibrant navy sweater. The striking black and deep blue says winter without being predictable.

Aventurine is an emerald green that makes a beautiful velvet blazer, statement top, or earrings to add a bit of glam.

Spring

Florals are a spring staple for a reason. Look for pastel shades to match the season.

Mix light lavender Lupine or Burnished Lilac as a blouse or light sweater with a Gray Contours for a grown-up, cool girl take on pastels.

Pantone’s Olivine and Mystic Navy create an outdoorsy match that gives an earthy vibe just in time for nature to awaken again.

Tender Stem is a light, mint green seen on runways that will brighten your face and make you stand out in a crowd.

Summer

The unspoken uniform for summer is the sundress. Lean into bright colors and heat-wave hues.

Sunshine, watermelon, beach day, hiking or a night on the town. Summer is versatile, so go with

Muskmelon, a robust, vibrant peach perfect for a day of beach reading or a feminine touch for any outdoor cookout.

Lava Falls is a bold red that could be creatively incorporated through lipstick, jewelry, or shoes – sneakers, sandals or heels depending on your mood. Pair this red with Tea Rose for a cool girl to take on an almost monochromatic look.

Canary yellow, anyone? Say hello to Acacia. This color will help you feel right out of a tropical vacation without ever having to leave your locale.

Final thought

The last few years may have drowned us in a sea of beige: Athleisure, home décor, even our closets went full vanilla. Don’t be afraid to reach for color, even the ones that feel a little bolder than your norm. Wear what inspires you and feels fun. Your creativity is something no one else can touch nor take away. Letting it show through your clothes? That’s the real quiet luxury.
