American made: 8 must-see clothing companies

Fast fashion (inexpensive clothing produced rapidly by mass-market retailers in response to the latest trends), is rampant in our country. Chasing the trends, we easily forget that this “perfect sweater” was produced in a sweatshop somewhere in communist China.

Most Americans want to turn the tide on fast fashion but aren’t sure how. We’re here to help!

Buying American-made clothing would support the economy, as well as ensure that you’re buying quality clothes that are ethically sourced.

Here is a list of eight American-made clothing brands that will keep your money in the good ol’ USA.

1. All American Clothing Company

Founded in 2002, the All American Clothing Company has been in business for over 20 years, delivering clothing and shoes for men and women made only in America. This company delivers functional everyday clothing for a reasonable price.

2. American Giant

A clothing company for men and women, American Giant focuses on revitalizing America. They not only create quality clothing but also jobs for struggling communities by re-opening factories and investing locally.

3. Rambler’s Way

Grown and sewn in America, the clothing at Rambler’s Way is sustainably sourced and crafted in America. With clothes for both men and women, you’ll get more bang for your buck by buying American wool and cotton clothing that’s made to last.

4. Project Social T

A women’s clothing brand based in LA, Project Social T offers a wide range of options made in the United States with locally sourced materials. Not only that, but when you buy from this brand you support the Tender Foundation, which works to support single mothers in Atlanta, GA.

5. Classy Cozy Cool

This women’s clothing boutique offers a wide variety of women’s clothing, all made in the USA. With reasonable prices, a variety of styles, and a range of sizes from petite to pus, this boutique has something for everything.

6. Goodwear

Founded in 1983, this brand focuses first on quality materials to ensure a quality product. Known for their classic cotton tees, Goodwear offers comfortable, stylish clothing for both men and women.

7. Diamond Gusset

Founded in 1987, Diamond Gusset invented a new kind of jeans that incorporates gussets for extra durability and advanced comfort. Since then they have branched out from denim, offering a variety of comfortable, quality, affordable menswear – all made in the USA.

8. Zkano

No outfit is complete without a comfortable pair of socks. This company, based in Fort Payne, Alabama, offers a variety of patterns, and colors. Buy socks for the whole family from Zkano!

This is all good but many of us cannot afford clothes in the $200 range. How about a list of manufacturers who offer lines of clothing in the $50 range? I am sure there are many bargain hunters out there like me.

Yes, there are. And bargain hunters buy Chinese. One cannot expect US manufacturers to pay good living wages and not reflect those costs in the price of the product. Wages, mind you, to each and every person in the supply chain. I, for one, am happy to support “American Made”, and my fellow patriots.

I do my part spending a couple bucks extra on staples like brand name scotch tape and cleaning supplies

I became tired of spending $100+ for a skirt. My solution: sew it! If you know how to sew. Do that. It is a solution. Buy the fabric and lining and turn a sewing talent into wearables.

I love that there are American made clothing options available, but unfortunately not everyone can afford the prices of such made clothing. A plain white t-shirt for $29. There surely has to be some adorable options for American made clothing so that people don’t have to buy everything that’s made in China.

Tammy- I would venture that the American-made $29 T shirt will outlive, and outlast, the $7 Wal-Mart T shirt.

I would love to shop only American made; however, as salaries in the US have not increased in 40 years, I cannot afford $95 sweat pants or $40 t-shirts.

At least they’re out there for those who can afford them… I do my part by buying the brand name scotch tape and markers haha

After seeing the movie “City of Dreams” last autumn, how can we be assured that none of these companies are using trafficked laborers to make the product? As much as I love buying USA made, exactly who is making the clothing is an issue of great concern.

To the manufacturers. Please include measurements and standardize them. Ordering on line is very difficult because of different sizes and measures.

Thank you for the information…like many of you, I too, am all over buying American made. It takes some extra searching, then when one finds that item, it is a gratitude experience. Plus, wearing it for years…..not a “throw away”.

Unfortunately when I went to the American Giant website, the reviews were about low quality workmanship. At $200 a dress, bad workmanship shouldn’t be the issue.
