Subtle but proud patriotic decor

As a mom of three littles, I hope to fill my home with beauty and celebration for the little and big events in our lives, especially patriotic holidays like the Fourth of July. I know that sprucing up our home with decorations excites my children as we eagerly await the celebration soon to come.

There are so many wonderful ways to prepare our hearts and minds for the upcoming 250th celebration. This isn’t merely a long weekend. Independence Day is a communal celebration of our nation’s incredible history of securing our independence and founding the greatest country in human history.

Seeking to find decorations that are not only beautiful, but also meaningful, I have put together a varied collection that is perfect for this great celebration. They are tasteful and subtle, offering a spark of patriotism for any home. I hope you will join us as we celebrate this great occasion!

Crafting memories

I love the opportunity to craft with my children and the Fourth of July is a wonderful opportunity to include them! This time together will allow you to discuss the history behind this day and ensure they know the real meaning behind the pool parties, hot dogs, and fireworks.

Roll out the welcome mat

  • Spruce up your front door with a tasteful wreath and new doormat. We love a subtle nod to the red, white, and blue.
  • Ensure your American flag is flying high and proudly (everyday!), but especially leading up to the Fourth of July.
  • Grab some smaller American flags and add them to your flower pots for a pop of color!

Living in full color

  • Decorate your living room by swapping out a couple of pillows and adding an adorable throw blanket to tie the room together.
  • Find some red, white, and blue ribbon to make your own, or grab this lovely garland to hang on your mantle.
  • Create a little memorial on your counter with just a couple of thrifted vases, red and white flowers, and a small American flag.

It’s the little details that really mean the most!

Plating with pizzazz

  • When preparing for your cookout and celebrations, ensure your paper goods are red, white, and blue. Whether disposable or an investment set, this will set the tone for your party.
  • A darling patriotic table cloth topped with Americana serving dishes are wonderful additions.
  • You can even spruce up the manner in which you display your food, creating a patriotic charcuterie board or red, white, and blue cookies. These are fun ways to get your kids involved and create memorable treats for your event!
  • Treat yourself to a new patriotic mug for your coffee in the mornings, and hang a gingham towel on your oven for an additional pop of color.

Family fun

  • For summer evenings spent together, build a national parks puzzle with your family and then display upon its completion.
  • Find some adorable master copies of famous American paintings and hang them in a thrifted frame.
  • Visit your local antique shop and find some vintage postcards of American destinations to use in a small gallery wall
  • Fill your children’s bookshelf (or even a wooden box!) with books teaching about the Fourth of July and our nation’s history. Choose a new book to read together each day leading up to the Fourth.

The meaning behind it all

What a gift it is to be an American and what a true blessing to have the freedom to celebrate this monumental occasion. More than the decorations, the celebrations, the fireworks, and the parties, may we pause this Fourth of July to honor those who have come before us and secured our liberties so we can enjoy the freedoms we do today.
